Treatment Solutions

The Louisiana Center for Disordered Eating provides both psychological and nutrition services to individuals who are able to benefit from outpatient treatment.  We firmly believe in the importance of multi-disciplinary treatment to appropriately and effectively treat clinical and sub-clinical eating disorders.

Our mission at the Louisiana Center for Disordered Eating is to work comprehensively and holistically with individuals experiencing patterns of disordered eating.  Our aim is to provide psychological and nutrition services to best meet the needs of the individual and/or their families during a process of healing and recovery.

Most clients choose to participate in both psychological and nutrition services through Louisiana Center for Disordered Eating.  Other individuals have pre-established treatment providers in the community and elect to use only one type of treatment service through Louisiana Center for Disordered Eating.  In this case, we will be happy to work closely with your community therapist and/or dietitian to provide comprehensive and consistent treatment.

Psychological Services:

Many psychological conditions such as anxiety, depression, mood disturbance, and substance abuse are contributing factors in the development of disordered eating behaviors.  For some individuals, emotional difficulties may develop secondary to an eating disorder.  Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to work collaboratively with a psychologist to identify and address the root contributors that are interfering with the individual's personal development and healthy psychological functioning.

Types of Psychological Services Offered

·         Individual Therapy

·         Family/Couples Therapy

·         Group Therapy

·         Psychological Assessment

Nutrition Services:

Facing food and related fears can be one of the most challenging, but liberating facets of recovery from an eating disorder. Nutrition education and counseling provides a non-judgmental environment for making peace with food, exercise and oneself.  Nutrition counseling provides an opportunity to work collaboratively with a dietitian to create a customized nutrition plan for recovery.  This includes work toward meeting essential nutrition needs, exploring food and weight-related myths, reducing eating disorder symptoms, and ultimately returning to "normal" eating.

Types of Nutrition Services Offered

·         Individual Nutrition Counseling

·         Group Nutrition Counseling

·         Nutrition Assessment

Medical and Psychiatric Treatment:

The Louisiana Center for Disordered Eating strongly believes in the importance of multi-disciplinary treatment to appropriately and effectively treat clinical and sub-clinical eating disorders.  We strive to work closely with both physicians and psychiatrists in the local Baton Rouge community in order to more effectively and comprehensively meet our client's needs.

Many of our clients already have close working relationships with treating physicians.  If you are currently working with a physician and/or psychiatrist, we will be happy to consult with your provider in order to coordinate your care and provide continuity in treatment.  For clients who do not currently have a physician and/or psychiatrist, but would like to begin receiving these treatment services, Louisiana Center for Disordered Eating will gladly provide referral information for community providers.
